Senior Superintendent Fairfield County, CT
A well-established, employee-owned general contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Superintendent to join its Connecticut operations. This is an excellent opportunity for a field leader who enjoys taking ownership of complex construction projects and working closely with project management, subcontractors, owners, architects, and trade partners.
The company has a strong portfolio across healthcare, higher education, K-12, corporate, municipal, historic, and institutional construction , with particular experience delivering complex projects in occupied facilities.
The Role
The Senior Superintendent will take overall responsibility for the day-to-day field operations of assigned projects, ensuring work is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead and manage all onsite construction activities from mobilization through closeout
- Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, field staff, inspectors, architects, and owners
- Develop and maintain project schedules and sequencing plans
- Coordinate logistics, site access, deliveries, temporary facilities, and site safety
- Review drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, and field conditions
- Lead daily and weekly subcontractor coordination meetings
- Monitor quality control and ensure work is completed in accordance with contract documents
- Identify potential scheduling, safety, quality, and coordination issues before they impact the project
- Work closely with the Project Manager and project team on project execution
- Maintain strong communication with the owner, design team, and trade partners
- Manage inspections, punch lists, commissioning, turnover, and project closeout
- Promote a strong safety culture across the entire project team
Ideal Background
The successful candidate will have:
- 8+ years of commercial construction experience , preferably with a general contractor
- Previous experience as a Superintendent or Senior Superintendent
- Experience managing projects from the field through completion
- Strong knowledge of construction means, methods, sequencing, and scheduling
- Experience coordinating multiple subcontractors and trades
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and MEP drawings
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Experience with healthcare, higher education, institutional, commercial, or public-sector construction is highly valued
- Experience working in occupied facilities or complex operating environments is a plus
- Strong understanding of OSHA and construction safety requirements
- Procore or comparable construction technology experience preferred
Project Environment
Projects may involve new construction, renovations, additions, and complex phased work , including environments where construction must be carefully coordinated around active building operations.
Healthcare experience is particularly relevant, with projects requiring detailed phasing, infection-control planning, life-safety measures, temporary facilities, shutdown coordination, and close communication with building occupants and facility personnel.
