Project Engineer – Water/Wastewater ConstructionCompensation: $80,000 – $120,000 base + comprehensive benefits Location: Bakersfield, CA Start Date: ImmediateOverviewWe are seeking a motivated Project Engineer to support the delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure projects in the Bakersfield region. This role is ideal for candidates looking to build their career in heavy civil and process/mechanical construction while working alongside experienced project managers and field teams.The Project Engineer will play a key role in coordinating project documentation, supporting cost and schedule tracking, and ensuring smooth communication between the office and field.This is an opportunity to join a high-performing team delivering critical infrastructure projects that directly impact local communities.Must-Have Qualifications2+ years of experience in construction, preferably in water/wastewater, civil, or industrial projectsStrong organizational skills with attention to detail in documentation and trackingBasic understanding of construction processes, drawings, and specificationsExperience supporting: Submittals and RFIsProject documentation and reportingScheduling and coordination effortsProficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)Strong communication skills and ability to work with field teams, subcontractors, and internal staffPreferred QualificationsBachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related fieldInternship or prior experience with a general contractor or subcontractorExposure to water/wastewater treatment plant construction or similar infrastructureFamiliarity with project management software (Procore, Primavera P6, Bluebeam, etc.)EIT certification or progress toward PE licenseKey ResponsibilitiesSupport Project Managers and Superintendents in the execution of construction projectsAssist with preparation and tracking of: SubmittalsRFIsChange ordersMeeting minutes and reportsMaintain organized and accurate project documentationCoordinate with vendors and subcontractors to ensure timely delivery of materials and informationTrack project progress, quantities, and productivity dataAssist with cost tracking, budgeting support, and forecasting updatesReview drawings and specifications to support field executionHelp ensure compliance with project requirements, safety standards, and quality expectationsParticipate in project meetings and provide clear, timely follow-upsSupport procurement activities and material trackingWork EnvironmentPrimarily based in Bakersfield, CA, with regular visits to local project sitesCollaborative environment working closely with project managers, superintendents, and field crewsMinimal travel required compared to regional or federal project rolesWhy JoinGain hands-on experience on essential infrastructure projectsClear growth path to Project Manager and beyondStrong mentorship from experienced construction professionalsStable, locally based role with long-term career development opportunitiesTeam-oriented culture focused on execution, learning, and advancement
