Construction Laborer
The Construction Laborer installs fiber optic cable and other utilities while operating a variety of construction equipment and performing manual excavation. This role combines hands-on outdoor work with the safe use of machinery such as skid loaders, mini excavators, directional boring machines, and locating equipment to support utility installation projects.
Responsibilities
- Install fiber optic cable and other underground utilities according to project specifications and safety standards.
- Operate construction equipment such as skid loaders, mini excavators, directional boring machines, and locating equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Perform hand digging and trenching using shovels and other hand tools to expose utilities and prepare work areas.
- Assist with setting up, maintaining, and cleaning the job site to ensure a safe and organized work environment.
- Follow directions from supervisors and crew leads to complete daily tasks and project milestones on time.
- Use hand tools and construction tools correctly to support installation, backfilling, and site restoration.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions while maintaining productivity and safety.
- Adhere to all safety procedures, including proper use of equipment and tools, to protect yourself, your team, and the public.
- Support the crew with any additional labor tasks required to complete utility installation projects.
Essential Skills
- At least 1 year of experience working outdoors in a physically demanding role.
- Willingness to perform manual labor and get hands dirty while working on construction and utility installation tasks.
- Ability to operate or quickly learn to operate a mini excavator.
- Basic experience or strong aptitude for operating construction equipment such as skid loaders and mini excavators.
- Comfort using hand tools and basic construction tools for digging, lifting, and material handling.
- Ability to work safely and follow instructions in an outdoor construction environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience operating a mini excavator, which is considered the most valuable transferable skill for this role.
- Directional boring experience, including operating or assisting with a directional boring machine.
- Experience with locating equipment used to identify underground utilities.
- Previous general labor or construction experience, especially in utility or infrastructure projects.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and a proactive attitude toward learning new equipment and tasks.

Work Environment
This role is primarily outdoors and involves working in a variety of weather conditions, including hot, cold, and rainy days. Installation work typically continues unless severe weather or persistent rain requires a day off. You will work on active construction and utility installation sites, using equipment such as skid loaders, mini excavators, directional boring machines, locating equipment, and a range of hand tools. The environment is physically demanding, requiring regular lifting, digging, and standing for extended periods, with a focus on safety and teamwork throughout each project.

This is a Contract position based out of Litchfield, MN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
