Construction Inspector

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Civil Chief Construction Inspector (CCI) to provide field-based construction oversight for utility infrastructure and facility improvement projects. The CCI will serve as the owner’s representative in the field , overseeing contractors and subcontractors performing civil construction activities across substations, transmission and distribution infrastructure, and utility facilities.

This position requires a strong civil construction background, excellent field judgment, and the ability to ensure work is completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with approved engineering drawings, specifications, and project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide daily on-site oversight of contractors and subcontractors performing civil construction activities.
• Monitor work involving concrete foundations, reinforced concrete, duct banks, excavation, underground utilities, structural installations, substation upgrades, and facility renovations .
• Verify construction is performed in accordance with approved drawings, engineering specifications, safety requirements, and applicable construction standards.
• Monitor contractor performance, construction quality, workmanship, and adherence to project schedules.
• Coordinate with contractors, project managers, engineers, and utility personnel to resolve field issues and maintain project progress.
• Participate in daily safety briefings and identify potential construction or site hazards.
• Ensure compliance with site-specific safety procedures and PPE requirements.
• Review construction drawings and specifications and identify potential constructability concerns before or during execution.
• Support daily construction documentation, progress reporting, budgeting, and contractor payment requisitions.
• Oversee multiple active construction projects and adapt to changing priorities and emerging field requirements.
• Represent the utility's interests on-site and ensure contractors meet established quality and project expectations.

Required Experience & Qualifications

• Strong background in civil construction management, construction supervision, or field construction inspection .
• Experience within utility, infrastructure, industrial, or commercial construction environments preferred.
• Demonstrated experience overseeing contractors and subcontractors on active construction sites.
• Strong knowledge of civil construction activities, including:

Concrete foundations

Reinforced concrete

Excavation and site work

Underground utilities and duct banks

Structural construction

• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, engineering specifications, and technical documentation .
• Experience monitoring construction quality, contractor performance, and compliance with safety standards.
• Strong field-based problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with multiple project stakeholders.
• Ability to oversee multiple construction activities or projects simultaneously.
