Construction Field Service TechnicianConstruction Field Service Technicians oversee the building of highways, bridges, utilities, and other infrastructure for municipal, commercial, industrial, residential, and land development projects. Essential functions include:Calculate dimensions, square footage, profile and component specifications, and material quantities using a calculator or computerDraft detailed dimensional drawings and design layouts for projects and ensure conformance to specificationsAnalyze proposed site factors and design maps, graphs, tracings, and diagrams to illustrate findingsRead and review project plans and specifications to determine dimensions of structure or system and material requirementsPrepare reports and document project activities and dataCollaborate with project supervisors to determine project details, such as plan preparation, acceptance testing, and evaluation of field conditionsInspect project site and evaluate contractor work to ensure conformance to design specifications and applicable codesPlan and conduct field surveys to locate new sites and analyze details of project sitesConduct materials testing and analysis using tools and equipment and apply engineering knowledgePerform manual labor such as bending, digging with hand shovel, cutting brush for lines, carrying equipment, stakes, rebar, and other items that may be heavy (5-50 lbs)Required traits and characteristics include:Ability to plan, schedule work, and complete projects within established budgets and timelinesStrong written and verbal communication skillsCustomer service orientedAbility to work outside on job sites (may be exposed to extreme temperatures)Organizational relationships:Reports directly to Lead Construction TechnicianRequired education/experience:High school diploma or equivalentPreferred education/experience:Associates degree or higher2+ years of related experienceRelated certifications including Nuclear Density, ACI Concrete, MDOT Density Tech, MCA Level 1 & 2, MDOT HMA Lab Tech Level 1, MI Aggregate Sampling, MDOT Paving Operations, SESC, CSWO, MDOT Bridge Construction, MI Bit QA/QCTravel:Position based in KalamazooDaily local travel to job sites (+/- 50 miles)Occasional regional travel (>75 miles)
