Construction Accountant

We are seeking an experienced Construction Accountant with at least 3 years of accounting experience, preferably within the home-building, construction, general contracting, or related industry. This position will be responsible for project-level accounting, job costing, WIP reporting, and general accounting functions while partnering with project and operational teams to ensure accurate financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage accounting activities for multiple construction projects, including job costing, WIP reporting, and cost analysis.
• Prepare and maintain Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules, monitoring project costs, revenue recognition, estimated costs to complete, and project profitability.
• Track and reconcile COGS and project-related expenses, ensuring costs are accurately assigned to the appropriate jobs and cost codes.
• Review project budgets, actual costs, commitments, change orders, and cost-to-complete estimates.
• Perform monthly reconciliations and assist with the month-end close process, including journal entries and account analysis.
• Work closely with Project Managers and operations teams to identify budget variances and ensure accurate project financial information.
• Assist with accounts payable, subcontractor/vendor billing, and project-related accruals as needed.
• Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for management reporting, audits, and year-end accounting.
• Help maintain strong accounting controls and ensure consistent application of company accounting policies.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of accounting experience, with construction accounting experience strongly preferred.
• Hands-on experience with WIP reporting, job costing, and COGS required.
• Solid understanding of general ledger accounting and month-end close.
• Experience working with project budgets, cost-to-complete estimates, and profitability analysis.
• Strong Excel skills and ability to work with large amounts of project and financial data.
• Sage Intacct ERP experience preferred.
• Experience with other construction or ERP accounting systems is also valuable.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
