Conflicts AttorneyAn international law firm seeks an experienced Conflicts Attorney to be based in Chicago. At least three (3) years of experience as a Conflict Attorney and a J.D. are required.
This position reports to the Director of Conflicts and works with a team of six or more persons. This role will be primarily remote but requires occasional onsite presence in Chicago.The Conflicts Attorney identifies, analyzes, and resolves potential conflicts of interest related to the Firm's new business intake and lateral hiring for all Firm offices. This position ensures new matters and attorney hires are compliant with the Firm's conflicts and risk management policies and procedures.
The Conflicts Attorney works with a team under minimal supervision and relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.Responsibilities – Conflicts AttorneyReview and analyze conflicts reports, identify potential conflicts of interest, and assist Firm partners and attorneys to resolve issues in a timely manner for all new client and new business.Conduct conflict analysis on lateral hires, providing concise summaries of potential conflict issues and steps required for resolution.Draft clear and concise conflict waivers to resolve identified conflict issues, and ensure waivers are obtained before new client/matters are opened.Participate in the review of engagement letters.Review outside counsel guidelines to ensure Firm-wide compliance.Assist with the preparation of audit letters.Perform conflict searches as a back up to conflicts analysts as needed.Position Requirements – Conflicts AttorneyJuris Doctorate (JD)Licensed in CA, IL, DC or NY (reporting to Chicago office remotely and on-site)At least three (3) years of Conflicts Attorney work experienceAbility to supervise work of Conflicts Analysts as neededKnowledge of conflicts of interest software databasesExperience with iManage or other document management/retention softwareExperience with the Aderant accounting system helpfulFamiliarity with legal research tools and databases, including Capital IQCore CompetenciesStrong written and verbal communication skillsStrong organizational and analytical skillsAbility to work under tight deadlines and prioritize responsibilitiesProven ability to handle and maintain confidential informationAble to learn new concepts and skills quicklyWorks well under minimal supervisionCompensationThe target salary for this role is approximately $140-170K annually, based on the candidate experience.
