Overview
The Computed Tomography Technologist performs computerized tomographic scans according to established standards. Provides basic patient care, explains standard procedures and answers patient questions, maintains equipment, transports patients and prepares and maintains documentation.
This position's work location is on-site only.
Responsibilities
- Obtain patient history.
- Educate patients/families regarding procedures, treatment to be performed, risk factors and prevention.
- Position patients appropriately for the applicable radiographic procedure.
- Perform radiographic procedures and analysis according to departmental guidelines.
- Develop and evaluate radiographic results for technical quality such as density, contrast, definition and distortion.
- Apply learned methodologies with independent judgment according to established policies and procedures.
- Perform prescribed procedures in accordance with established policies and maintain infection prevention standards.
- Explain standard procedures and answer patient questions.
- Prepare and clean equipment.
- Produce quality images and present them with other pertinent patient information for timely interpretation.
- Prepare and maintain accurate documentation, archiving imaging data as needed or required.
- Collaborate with physicians and other medical professionals.
- Operate head or body scanners to create a computer generated cross-sectional image of patient's internal organs and tissues for diagnosis of medical issues.
- Produce computerized tomographic scanner radiographs of specific areas.
- Determine and set appropriate technical parameters to accurately demonstrate anatomy and pathology.
- May perform obstetric and gynecological scans, abdominal scans, retroperitoneal scans, and radiation therapy localization.
- Adhere to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety as well as all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
- Perform and evaluate equipment quality control measurements, troubleshoot and notify appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance.
- Ensure efficient workflow of the department and monitor and maintain an adequate inventory of supplies and materials to avoid service interruption.
- Document incidental findings that might impact patient safety or patient care and provide that information to the interpreting physician.
- Exercise responsibility for maintenance and accuracy of facility reports, database records and logs.
- Ensure that the examination results meet the facility standard for Quality Assurance before findings are released for interpretation.
- Provide oversight for assessment of examinations performed within the facility for technical and image quality, and accuracy.
- Participate in creating and sustaining a learning environment supported by evidence‑based practice and research.
- Focus on personal development areas, engaging in professional/collegial interactions with peers and students.
- Work with peers and other health care providers; participate in ongoing in‑service and educational seminars.
- Participate in orienting, assisting, mentoring and education of colleagues, students and onboarding employees.
- Stay current and comply with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the area of responsibility.
- If required for position, ensure all certifications and/or licenses are up‑to‑date and valid prior to expiration dates.
- Complete all company mandatory modules and required job‑specific training in the specified time frame.
- Responsible for reporting any safety‑related incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attend all safety‑related training programs; perform work in a safe manner; monitor work environment for possible safety issues and ensure others are also performing work in a safe manner.
Qualifications
- Education : Associates of Applied Science or other related fields—required.
- Certification & Licensures :
- AZDHS Certified Radiologic Technologist and Preceptor CT—required.
- ARRT (CT) to be obtained within 12 months of hire OR Staff member must have AZDHS Certified Radiologic Technologist and CT license grandfathered—required.
- BLS (American Heart Association)—required.
- Fingerprint Clearance Card application number—required upon hire.
- Fingerprint Clearance Card required within 90 days of hire.
- Employee will obtain and maintain appropriate clinical competencies for the roles assigned by their departmental leader.
- Experience Minimum 1 year experience as imaging technologist—preferred.
