We build and operate platforms and applications using modern frameworks to create responsive front‑end and Big Data solutions. The firm is investing to uplift and rebuild the Compliance application portfolio.
Role Overview (SRE Engineer)
As an SRE Engineer at Goldman Sachs, you will ensure that our systems are healthy, monitored, automated, and designed to scale. You will collaborate with engineering teams to continuously improve production services, facilitate fast delivery, and reduce downtime. The role combines software and system engineering to build and operate highly performable, distributed, fault‑tolerant systems.
Job Responsibilities
- Proactively manage production services by measuring and monitoring availability, capacity, and overall system health.
- Shape software before go‑live through system design consulting, capacity planning, and launch reviews.
- Scale and evolve systems by driving changes that improve capacity and reliability.
- Practice sustainable incident management within a blameless post‑mortem culture.
- Identify and build improvements to system behavior, control, and monitoring tools.
- Define and maintain Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs).
- Engineer solutions to reduce “toil” through automation and self‑healing capabilities.
Technical Skills
- Experience with Java, Python, or Perl.
- Strong communication abilities and the capacity to articulate ideas clearly.
- Solid analytical and problem‑solving skills with attention to technical risk.
- Systematic problem‑solving approach and sense of ownership.
- Debugging, code optimization, and automation of routine tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum 3–4 years of experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- Experience with automated testing, SDLC concepts, Linux application development, algorithms, data structures, and software design.
- Proficiency with observability stacks such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or OpenTelemetry.
- Desirable experience: SRE, relational databases, Hadoop, big data technologies, financial industry or compliance/risk functions.
- Familiarity with cloud‑native architecture and managed services (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Understanding of SRE terminology such as error budgeting.
