Compiler Security Engineer - C/C++, Languages & RuntimesThe Security Tools team at Apple is looking for software engineers to develop secure language features for C/C++ and enhance security features in the Clang compiler. Clang is a core part of Apple's developer tools, used internally to build Apple's software stack and externally by millions of developers, and is open source, powering the broader ecosystem. Your work will help eliminate entire classes of vulnerabilities at the language level, protecting billions of devices.ResponsibilitiesDevelop and roll out security-oriented language featuresCollaborate with cross-functional teamsContribute to and engage with the Clang/LLVM open source communityHelp qualify compilersTriage and address compiler bugsEvangelize security tools and technologies through work with early adopters and educationWrite technical documentationProvide code reviews for peer engineersMinimum QualificationsExpertise in compiler design and implementationAbility to write secure and high performing code with C/C++Knowledge of memory safety and securityB.S. in Computer Science or equivalent experience; advanced degrees welcomePreferred QualificationsExperience working across organizational boundaries.Knowledge of LLVM/Clang or open source developmentKnowledge of security mitigation and exploitation techniquesPassion for improving compilers and developer toolsPatient, user-focused decision-makingStrong communication and teamwork skillsPositive and respectful attitude in a diverse environmentIf possible, we'd love to see an example of your relevant work, such as a personal project or open source contributionPay & BenefitsAt Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role.
The base pay range for this role is between $150,400 and $277,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
