ABOUT US

JER HR Group is a human resources consulting firm specializing in compensation for public sector and nonprofit organizations. Our compensation practice delivers classification and compensation studies, job architecture design, market pricing, pay equity analysis, and executive compensation governance for cities, counties, school districts, special districts, and nonprofit boards across the country.

Beyond compensation, we provide organizational development services such as executive coaching and leadership training, along with HR consulting on policy management, regulatory compliance, and HR audits. Our consultants are supported by CompBldr®, our proprietary compensation management platform, and we pride ourselves on a collaborative, inclusive culture where experienced practitioners do their best work.

THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced Compensation Consultant to lead and deliver client engagements from kickoff through final presentation. You will analyze jobs, evaluate positions, price the market, design pay structures, and translate the results into clear, defensible recommendations for HR leaders, executives, and governing bodies. The ideal candidate has built compensation structures for multiple organizations, is comfortable presenting to elected officials and boards, and brings sound judgment to the practical and political realities of public and nonprofit pay.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Job Analysis and Evaluation

■      Conduct job analysis through position questionnaires, employee and supervisor interviews, and review of existing job descriptions.

■      Evaluate jobs using point factors and other recognized job evaluation methodologies to establish internal equity.

■      Write and update job descriptions and job specifications, including FLSA exemption status and EEO reporting classifications.

Market Analysis and Pay Structure Design

■      Identify comparator organizations with clients, then design, administer, and analyze custom salary and benefits surveys.

■      Benchmark positions using published surveys and custom data to build competitive, sustainable pay structures.

■      Develop implementation options with cost estimates, placement methods, and pay progression recommendations.

Pay Equity and Compliance

■      Conduct pay equity studies and compression analyses and advise clients on remediation strategies.

■      Advise clients on compliance with federal and state requirements, including FLSA, equal pay, and pay transparency laws.

■      Support nonprofit clients on executive compensation governance, including comparability data for board approval.

Client Advisory and Program Design

■      Design and advise on compensation programs, including base pay, incentives and bonuses, shift differentials, pay for skills, and certification pay.

■      Advise clients on benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, retirement, and other perquisites.

■      Partner with clients to develop compensation policies and administrative procedures that sustain the program after implementation.

■      Prepare written reports and present findings to HR leaders, executives, councils, commissions, and boards.

■      Contribute subject matter expertise to proposals and responses to requests for proposals (RFPs).

Technology and Data

■      Use CompBldr® and other compensation tools to manage survey data, job evaluations, and pay structure modeling.

■      Analyze compensation data and market trends to produce accurate, well documented recommendations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

■      Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.

■      At least 10 years of compensation experience with a government agency, nonprofit organization, or consulting firm.

■      Proven experience with job evaluation, market pricing, and pay structure design for multiple organizations.

■      Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and compensation analysis tools.

■      Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex findings to nontechnical audiences.

■      Ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines independently while working effectively as part of a remote team.

Preferred

■      Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation.

■      Additional credentials such as SPHR, SHRM SCP, or a master’s degree.

■      Experience presenting to elected officials, governing boards, or nonprofit compensation committees.

■      Familiarity with nonprofit executive compensation requirements, including IRC Section 4958 and Form 990 reporting.

WHY JOIN JER HR GROUP

■      Varied portfolio of public sector and nonprofit clients nationwide.

■      Work alongside credentialed compensation consultants on meaningful, high visibility engagements.

■      Access to proprietary methodologies and technology, including CompBldr®.
