RideWise Inc., a Somerville nonprofit dedicated to promoting safe and sustainable travel, is hiring a full-time Community Safety Education Specialist to join the team. This entry-level, grant funded position coordinates bicycle and pedestrian safety initiatives in the community. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the non-profit sector, with an emphasis on programming that promotes sustainable transportation and safety.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Provide bicycle and pedestrian safety education to youth-based community groups

Coordinate pedestrian safety campaigns in the community

Assist with school-based programming related to bicycle and pedestrian safety

Conduct walking and bicycling assessments to identify barriers to biking and walking

Coordinate the agency's bicycle rehabilitation program

Coordinate with local communities to identify locations for temporary demonstration projects related to bicycle/pedestrian safety and traffic calming.

WORK SCHEDULE

This full-time, 40-hours-per-week position is based in Somerville, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends, evening, or early morning hours based on program needs.

COMPENSATION

The hourly rate for this position is $26.50 per hour.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

The ideal candidate has demonstrated knowledge of safe cycling and walking skills and a commitment to safety, sustainability and active transportation. Other essential skills include:

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to manage multiple programs at the same time
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences
  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members and external partners
  • Ability to ride a bicycle and walk up to one-mile for programs and field activities
  • Ability to pass a fingerprinting/background check
  • Ability to complete and pass League of American Bicyclists League Cycling Instructor (LCI) certification
  • Reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, valid vehicle insurance, and a good driving record for travel to and from the office and fieldwork throughout Somerset County
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds to transport equipment and program materials
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, and standard office equipment e.g., phones, printers, and photocopiers
  • Fluency in Spanish is a plus
  • Experience working in a nonprofit setting is a plus
  • Familiarity with Somerset County is preferred
