Receives, screens, and monitors emergency and non-emergency calls and emails from the public and police/public safety agencies, using a multi-line telephone system (Division handles more than 400,000 incoming calls per year). Categorizes and prioritizes complaints; dispatches personnel to incident locations; monitors radio traffic and maintains awareness of activities; enters data into a computerized system; prepares written complaint forms; utilizes various map systems, including a specialized Geographic Information System (GIS); maintains written logs for the employee gate. Handles customer complaints; creates and monitors work requests; tracks crews/vehicles/equipment; archives accidents and system failures.
QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires qualified applicants to possess the following:
• Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of one (1) year of dispatching experience.
PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred qualifications include:
• Six (6) months of experience in animal control and/or animal rescue or emergency dispatching,
• Two (2) years of customer service experience,
• Experience with data entry,
• Experience reading maps ,
• Bi/trilingual (English/Spanish/Creole), and
• Completion of a police, fire rescue, or other certified communications class (must specify on application) .
