Communications OperatorThe Communications Operator manages the switchboard for the hospital in order to provide routine information and to direct calls to the appropriate areas or utilize the overhead paging system.These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis; other tasks may be assigned.Answer incoming calls and provide direct dial numbers as appropriateRespond to emergency calls and codes following established protocolsAssist callers by using the paging or beeping systems as neededUtilize the CRMC Information Technology programs designated by the Manager—i.e. Patient Information System, E-mail, and Telecommunications software—proficientlyMonitor and follow protocols for alarms announced in the Telecommunications officeMaintain required records and statisticsAssist in the maintenance and care of department equipment and suppliesAttend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-servicesDemonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient careReports to: Switchboard/PBX Supervisor, may also receive direction from the Chief Information OfficerSupervises: NoneResponsibilities: Not applicableTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
