Position Overview

CAIR-Georgia, the Georgia chapter of America's largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, is seeking a Communications Director or Manager to lead all external communications efforts for the chapter. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this full-time hybrid position is based in Atlanta, GA, and offers two title tracks: Communications Director (for candidates with 3+ years of management experience) or Communications Manager (for those with 2+ years of relevant experience). The successful candidate will oversee a full-time Communications Coordinator while managing the organization's public-facing messaging across all platforms.

Core Responsibilities

  • Communications Strategy & Content Development - Develop and maintain a 12-month editorial calendar with defined themes, key milestones, and measurable goals - Ensure consistent, on-brand voice across all communication channels (social media, email, press, digital platforms) - Translate organizational programs and initiatives into compelling, community-focused messaging - At the Director level, set overall editorial strategy; at the Manager level, execute approved strategic direction
  • Social Media & Digital Management - Manage presence across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and X (formerly Twitter) - Publish a minimum of five posts weekly across platforms with audience engagement monitoring - Monitor comments, direct messages, and community feedback; respond promptly - Maintain organization website, Linktree, and campaign landing pages - Produce and distribute weekly analytics reports tracking performance
  • Email Communications & Fundraising Support - Create and distribute monthly MailChimp newsletters to growing subscriber base with target open rate of 35% or higher - Collaborate with the Development team to support fundraising campaigns through email outreach and donor communications
  • Media Relations - Maintain and regularly update media contact lists - Monitor news coverage relevant to civil rights, Muslim community, and organizational focus areas - Draft, edit, and publish press releases, media advisories, and media kit materials - Coordinate media outreach for organizational announcements and campaigns
  • Campaigns & Event Communications - Develop and execute comprehensive communications plans for major fundraising initiatives, legislative advocacy, and community campaigns - Collaborate cross-functionally with Legal, Policy, Outreach, and Development teams - Manage communications timelines and deliverables for events and major announcements
  • Design & Creative Assets - Create graphics and digital design assets that align with organizational brand standards - Maintain organized digital asset library for consistent brand application - Coordinate with external photographers and videographers for event and promotional content

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field, OR 2+ years of directly relevant professional experience in lieu of degree
  • 2+ years of experience managing social media, digital content, or organizational communications (3+ years required for Director level)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational abilities with demonstrated capacity to manage multiple content streams and projects simultaneously
  • Proficiency with social media scheduling tools, MailChimp, Canva, and Google Analytics
  • Demonstrated commitment to civil rights advocacy, religious freedom, and racial justice

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
  • Previous experience working in nonprofit, educational, or Muslim community organizations
  • Bilingual capability in Arabic, Urdu, or other community languages
  • Prior experience supervising or mentoring staff

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $75,000–$90,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications
