Job Title: Senior Commissioning Specialist (Facilities & Healthcare)
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Commissioning Specialist to lead and execute comprehensive commissioning activities for complex new construction, renovation, and existing building projects. In this role, you will be the primary technical authority ensuring that building systems operate safely, efficiently, and in strict compliance with design intent and stakeholder expectations.
This is a dynamic, high-visibility role that blends office-based planning with hands-on field execution. You will work directly with clients, project stakeholders, and contractors to oversee equipment start-up, QA/QC, and functional performance testing. If you are a seasoned commissioning professional with deep expertise in mechanical, plumbing, and building automation systems-particularly within healthcare or mission-critical facilities-we invite you to lead our project delivery efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Commissioning & Testing Execution
• Project Leadership: Lead all commissioning-related activities across the project lifecycle, including new construction, retro-commissioning, and asset management initiatives.
• Testing & Validation: Plan and execute rigorous QA/QC protocols and Functional Performance Tests (FPT) for mechanical, plumbing, and building automation systems (BAS/controls).
• Equipment Start-Up: Oversee facility and utility infrastructure start-up procedures, ensuring systems achieve optimal operational performance and energy efficiency.
Stakeholder & Regulatory Management
• Code Compliance: Ensure all commissioning and testing processes align with industry standards and code requirements, including ASHRAE, NFPA, and TAB (Test, Adjust, and Balance) processes.
• Client Liaison: Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients, contractors, and project stakeholders, resolving field discrepancies and driving projects to successful completion.
• Documentation & Reporting: Deliver comprehensive commissioning reports, issue logs, and functional verification documentation to facility owners.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor's degree in a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience.
• Experience Baseline: 10+ years of progressive, hands-on experience in commissioning activities, specifically covering utility infrastructure, mechanical/plumbing systems, building automation/controls, and facility O&M.
• Technical Mastery: Working knowledge of ASHRAE, NFPA, and mechanical TAB testing processes and code requirements.
• Citizenship & Travel: U.S. Citizenship is required. Must be willing and able to travel up to 50%, which may include multi-week field assignments or periodic long-term site deployments.
Preferred Attributes
• Industry Focus: Direct commissioning experience within healthcare, laboratory, or complex commercial facilities (mechanical/plumbing discipline focus; petro-chem or exclusively electrical backgrounds are not aligned with this portfolio).
• Certifications: Industry-recognized commissioning certifications (e.g., CxA, BCxP, CCP) are highly preferred.
• Communication: Exceptional client-facing, verbal, and written communication skills with a proven ability to lead multi-trade coordination meetings.
