nJob Title: Commissioning Engineer I, II, III
nEmployment Type: Full-Time, Hourly (40 hours/week)
nLocation: AZ, MO, IA, TX, NV, OK, NE, TN
nTravel: On site work with travel expected up to 100% Department: Field Services
nReports To: Founder and Principal Engineer
nCompensation: $32-$89/hr, plus generous overtime opportunities. Total earnings may exceed the base pay range based on overtime worked.
nKey Responsibilities
nExecute and support commissioning, testing, startup, and turnover activities for electrical power systems and equipment.
nDevelop and perform commissioning procedures, test plans, and documentation for MV/LV systems, generators, UPS systems, switchgear, and related infrastructure.
nTroubleshoot and resolve technical issues to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient system operation.
nCoordinate commissioning activities with clients, contractors, vendors, and project teams.
nManage project scope, schedules, budgets, and commissioning deliverables commensurate with experience level.
nLead field testing activities, oversee commissioning execution, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
nPrepare and maintain commissioning reports, test records, and project documentation.
nCommissioning Engineer III: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and commissioning personnel, as appropriate.
nQualifications
nEducation
nBachelor's Degree (B.S.) or Master's Degree (M.S.) in electrical engineering from a college/university accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET)
nExperience
nCommissioning Engineer I
n1–3 years of related experience preferred.
nCommissioning Engineer II
n3+ years of experience in electrical testing, commissioning, or power systems engineering.
nFE certification preferred.
nCommissioning Engineer III
n7+ years of experience in electrical testing, commissioning, startup, or power systems engineering.
nPE license preferred.
nAdditional Requirements
nExperience with commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and startup of utility, industrial, generation, transmission, distribution, or substation electrical systems.
nKnowledge of protection and control systems, electrical equipment testing, power system operation, and commissioning best practices.
nFamiliarity with IEEE, IEC, ANSI, NETA, NFPA 70E, NESC, and other applicable industry codes and standards.
nExperience with commissioning and testing of protective relays, circuit breakers, transformers, switchgear, SCADA systems, and associated electrical equipment is preferred.
nStrong analytical, problem-solving, and technical troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex field issues.
nExcellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively coordinate with clients, contractors, vendors, and project teams.
nValid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
nProfessional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required.
nPhysical Requirements
nAbility to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
nAbility to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
nAbility to bend, crouch, climb, and work at various heights.
nRequired to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as needed.
