Commercial Litigation Attorney
Location: Chicago, IL
Compensation: $125K-$160K (DOE)
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Commercial Litigation Attorney to manage complex commercial and construction‑related disputes from intake through trial and appeal. The attorney will represent individuals, business entities, and major credit grantors in complex commercial litigation matters, including breach of contract disputes, shareholder conflicts, business torts, and enforcement actions.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a diverse caseload of commercial litigation matters including contract disputes, construction claims, creditor's rights enforcement, and collection actions.
- Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, briefs, settlement agreements, and appellate filings with clarity and precision.
- Develop and implement litigation strategy, advise clients on risk and remedial options, and lead settlement negotiations and alternative dispute resolution proceedings.
- Handle all aspects of discovery, including written discovery, depositions, e‑discovery protocols, and expert engagement.
- Represent clients at hearings, mediations, arbitrations and jury or bench trials; prepare witnesses and trial materials.
- Collaborate with partners, business development teams, and in‑house counsel to align litigation strategy with client goals and business objectives.
- Supervise and mentor junior attorneys, associates and paralegals; manage deadlines, budgets, and client communication to ensure high‑quality service delivery.
- Maintain knowledge of evolving case law and statutory developments in commercial, construction and creditor rights law to provide proactive counsel.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
- Admission to practice in Illinois
- 4+ years of commercial litigation experience, experience in construction law, labor/employment, and/or creditor/creditors rights experience strongly preferred.
- Proven trial and courtroom experience, including handling hearings, trials and appellate matters.
- Excellent written and oral advocacy skills, strong legal research and drafting ability, and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with creditor rights statutes, UCC provisions, foreclosure and collection procedures, and construction industry practices and disputes.
- Experience managing discovery and e‑discovery platforms and working with experts and consultants.
- Strong client relationship and negotiation skills, ability to manage multiple matters and priorities, and a collaborative mindset.
