Remote Full Time Law Practice

Commercial Leasing Attorney

Kaalberg Giesecke, PLLC, a Nashville-based boutique law firm focused on commercial real estate and finance, is seeking an experienced Commercial Leasing Attorney to join its commercial real estate practice. The firm offers an alternative to Big Law: all of our attorneys are former Big Law attorneys, and we handle sophisticated, high-quality work with a significantly lower billable hour target, in this case 1,200 to 1,400 hours annually. This position will focus primarily on retail leasing matters and may be structured as remote or hybrid.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate retail and other commercial leases.
  • Prepare lease amendments, assignments and assumptions, subleases, guaranties, SNDAs, estoppel certificates, letters of intent, and related documents.
  • Represent landlords, tenants, developers, property owners, and other clients in commercial leasing transactions.
  • Advise clients on lease interpretation, compliance, defaults, renewals, expansions, relocations, and terminations.
  • Manage transactions from initial negotiations through execution.
  • Identify legal and business risks and provide practical, business-focused advice.
  • Manage multiple matters, deadlines, and client priorities with limited supervision.

Required Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law and good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • At least four years of commercial leasing experience, with a primary focus on retail leasing. Prior Big Law experience is strongly preferred.
  • Strong lease drafting, review, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound professional judgment.
  • Strong organizational skills, responsiveness, and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience representing both landlords and tenants.
  • Experience working with national or regional retailers, shopping centers, mixed-use developments, or other retail properties.
  • Broader commercial real estate experience, including acquisitions, dispositions, development, or financing is a plus.
  • Experience managing leasing portfolios or handling a high volume of transactions.

Work Arrangement

This position may be remote or hybrid. Any office attendance, travel, or location expectations will be discussed during the hiring process.
