The mission of the VCU Division ofColon and Rectal Surgery is to deliver superior patient care withintegrity and kindness while advancing knowledge through researchand education.
CHIEF PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION IN SUPPORT OF ABOVE MISSION ORGOAL:
This position is for a Part Time FTE as part of a joint VArecruitment effort.
This position is open rank, an early- to mid-career collateral,non-tenure track faculty position in the VCU Colon and RectalDivision. The faculty member should have clinical and researchinterests that complement and expand on existing expertise in theDivision. Clinical and research areas of particular interest shouldprimarily be in the treatment of complex colorectal and anorectaldiseases. The faculty member should also support the currentDivision’s expanding efforts to provide excellent colorectalsurgical support to many of our current regional outreach programs,including Massey Cancer Center. Finally, the faculty member shouldsupport the Division’s commitment to teaching Surgery Residentsand, Fellows as well as VCU Medical Students.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching
The faculty member will have teaching responsibilities in Colon andRectal Surgery as it relates to residents and medicalstudents.
Research
The faculty member may participate in clinical and/or basic scienceresearch relevant to the expanding field of Colon and RectalSurgery. A record of publication in refereed journals orpresentations at national meetings is expected. The faculty memberis expected to develop interdisciplinary collaborations withinVCU’s Massey Cancer Center, and other medical and surgicalspecialties.
Service
The faculty member may serve on University, Health System, andDepartmental committees as requested by leadership. They willassist with the recruitment, training, and placement of Residentsand Fellows among the varied specialties outlines above.
Clinical
Faculty member clinical responsibility will be focused on apart-time colorectal clinical practice. Will be responsibleforproviding care for the Colorectal Surgical patients on the MCVcampus of VCU. They will be responsible for the development of anactive colorectal surgical practice, with the support of theDivision and Department’s leadership.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Board Certification or Eligibility in General Surgery
- Advanced training fellowship in an ACGME-accredited Colon andRectal Surgery program
- Commitment to Outcomes, Clinical and/or Basic ScienceResearch
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment ofrespect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty,staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or acommitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
