What To Expect (Job Responsibilities)

• Conduct random audits of medical records to ensure accurate coding assignments
• Review and analyze medical records for appropriate diagnoses and procedures
• Utilize encoding and abstracting systems to ensure complete and accurate coding
• Maintain detailed records of audits, results, recommendations, and follow‑ups
• Advise coding specialists on coding guidelines and practices as needed

What Is Required (Qualifications)

• Associate degree in Health Information Management
• 3‑5 years of medical center outpatient coding experience (ICD10‑CM and CPT)
• Knowledge and experience with electronic health records and health information management applications
• Relevant certifications such as RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or COC
• Strong understanding of coding guidelines and practices

How To Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)

• Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Administration or equivalent
• Additional certifications in coding and health information management
• Experience with 3M APC Software claim edits
• Familiarity with CMS' National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) and Outpatient Code Editor (OCE) edits
• Previous experience in a healthcare setting focused on coding quality improvement
