CNC Machine OperatorThis role focuses on operating and adjusting CNC mills and lathes to perform standard and repetitive machining operations on a wide range of surfaces, diameters, and depths. You will work with pre-proven programs and setups created by others, ensuring parts meet quality specifications through precise measurement and inspection. The position involves basic computer data entry, light material handling, and consistent adherence to safety and quality standards in a high-volume manufacturing environment.ResponsibilitiesOperate and adjust CNC mills and CNC lathes (including Haas equipment) to perform drilling, reaming, tapping, milling, turning, boring, and other machining operations on a variety of surfaces, diameters, and depths.Run standard and repetitive machining sequences using programs and setups that have been previously proven and established by others.Monitor machine operations and make minor adjustments to maintain part quality and dimensional accuracy.Inspect machined parts using micrometers, bore gauges, thread gauges, calipers, and other measurement tools to verify conformance to specifications.Perform quality checks on parts throughout the production process and document inspection results as required.Enter and read input and output numbers on a computer to track production, record measurements, and update job-related information.Handle and lift metal components up to 5 pounds into and out of machines in a safe and efficient manner.Maintain a clean and organized work area, following safety procedures and housekeeping standards in a busy manufacturing environment.Collaborate with supervisors and team members to address production issues, support continuous improvement, and meet daily production goals.Follow established work instructions, standard operating procedures, and quality guidelines for each job run.Essential SkillsAt least 1 year of machining experience in a manufacturing environment (such as brake press, laser, punch press, turret, CNC, or similar production machinery).Minimum of 1 year of experience using micrometers and calipers to perform quality inspection on parts.Hands-on experience operating CNC equipment, including CNC mills and CNC lathes.Ability to use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and thread gauges to verify part dimensions.Basic machine operation skills, including starting, stopping, and adjusting equipment safely and correctly.Capability to enter and read numerical data on a computer for production tracking and quality documentation.Comfort with working in a loud, dirty, high-volume manufacturing facility.Ability to safely lift and move metal parts up to 5 pounds repeatedly during the shift.Additional Skills & QualificationsAt least 6 months of prior machine operating experience in a manufacturing setting.Experience with Haas CNC machines or similar equipment.Experience in operating various types of manufacturing machinery, such as brake press, laser, punch press, or turret presses.Familiarity with quality inspection processes in a production environment.Willingness to work extended hours and overtime when approved.Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality parts.Ability to work effectively in a large team environment with many departments and progression opportunities.Why Work Here?This organization offers structured growth and development through a step program that rewards learning new departments with additional pay, creating clear pathways into advanced machinist and leadership roles. The environment is loud and dirty, reflecting heavy industrial operations, and requires comfort working around machinery and production noise. The primary schedule for the second shift is 4:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday, with required work on Friday and Saturday every three weeks and voluntary work on those days during other weeks. Shift premiums are provided for non-day shifts, with an additional amount for second and third shifts. The facility operates with substantial overtime availability, up to 60 hours per week when approved in advance. Dress code includes steel-toe footwear, jeans, and a t-shirt without rips or holes to maintain safety and professionalism on the production floor. Regular reviews at 30, 60, and 90 days, followed by ongoing annual reviews, are part of the structured work environment, supporting continuous feedback and growth.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Janesville, WI.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $21.50/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
