Role Overview

Apply hands-on CNC machining expertise to help train next-generation AI systems through accurate, real-world input on advanced part production and process optimization. This remote contract role focuses on operating and setting up hobbyist and industrial CNC equipment, interpreting engineering documentation, and resolving machining issues across varied materials and part geometries. No prior AI experience is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate desktop and industrial CNC machines, including platforms such as Makera Carvera and Haas VF-2.
  • Load and verify CNC programs; install tooling; configure workholding; and establish work offsets for projects.
  • Run first-piece cycles, inspect parts against drawings, and adjust setups to achieve dimensional accuracy.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and diagnose issues including tool wear, chatter, and dimensional drift.
  • Use calipers, micrometers, indicators, and CMM equipment to validate parts and confirm compliance with specifications.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T callouts, and manufacturing documentation to guide production.
  • Provide input on machining processes, best practices, setup optimization, manufacturability, and issue resolution to support quality and consistency.
  • Collaborate with CAM programmers and other stakeholders on setup optimization and manufacturability feedback.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of hands-on CNC machining experience, including setup and production work.
  • Required expertise operating Haas control systems, including VF-2 or comparable platforms.
  • Strongly preferred familiarity with hobbyist or desktop CNC platforms, such as Makera Carvera.
  • Proficiency in machine setup and operation, blueprint reading, GD&T interpretation, precision measurement, and machining troubleshooting.
  • Experience machining both metals and plastics.
  • Ability to optimize machining setups and maintain a safe, organized workspace.
  • Outstanding written and verbal English communication skills for clear documentation and feedback.

  • Remote contract engagement.

Compensation

  • $80 to $120 per hour.
