CNC MachinistLocation: Comstock Park, MI, US, 49321 Country/Region: United States Job Function: ManufacturingNature of Work: The CNC Operator will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC machines to produce precision parts according to engineering specifications. This role requires attention to detail, technical skill, and a commitment to quality and safety. The ideal candidate will be proficient in reading blueprints, working with tight tolerances, and collaborating with engineering and other teams to bring complex designs to life.Examples of Work Performed:Set up and operate CNC machines (mills, lathes, and Haas VF6) to produce parts to specificationInterpret technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD models to determine machining requirementsSelect appropriate tools, fixtures, and materials for each jobMonitor machine operations, adjust settings, and perform quality checks using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges)Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of CNC equipmentTroubleshoot machining issues and collaborate with engineers to improve processesDocument production activities and maintain accurate records of parts and materialsEnsure compliance with safety standards and shop protocolsFabricate parts using saws, grinders, shears, brakes, and other shop toolsAssemble mechanical systems and automation equipment per engineering drawings and schematicsOperate forklifts, overhead cranes, and other material handling equipment safelyCollaborate with engineers, technicians, and electricians to ensure proper fit and function of assembliesMaintain a clean and organized work area in compliance with safety standardsStrong Interpersonal Skills: Effectively collaborate with management and team members Assist in training new team members on welding techniques and shop safety Team Building: Foster mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among all team membersKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Experience with multi-axis CNC machines or advanced machining centers (Haas VF6 preferred)Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and CAD/CAM outputsFamiliarity with CAD/CAM softwareKnowledge of automation systems and robotics integrationSkilled in using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, CMMs)Understanding of tooling selection, setup, and optimization for different materialsExperience with machine offsets, tool changes, and fixture setupKnowledge of cutting speeds, feeds, and machining parameters for metals, plastics, and compositesAbility to work independently and as part of a teamMust be a self-starter, team player, work well with others, and have a positive attitudeKnowledgeable of automation components preferred, but not requiredMust have ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlinesSafety Compliance (OSHA, PPE) Forklift & Overhead Crane OperationMinimum Qualifications:High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in CNC machining preferred2+ years of experience operating CNC machines in a manufacturing or machine shop environmentAbility to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and G-code programmingProficiency with measuring tools and quality inspection techniquesStrong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skillsCommitment to safety, precision, and continuous improvementMust be able to lift 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
