Cloud Engineer (United States)

We are seeking an experienced Senior AWS Migrations Engineer to work alongside AWS Professional Services (ProServe) teams on a major enterprise-wide initiative to migrate and modernize a complex portfolio of legacy on-premises applications to AWS for a leading financial services institution.

This is a highly technical, hands-on position in which you will work directly with application development teams as a dedicated cloud architecture advisor and migration engineer , providing end-to-end guidance on transitioning complex, high-throughput financial applications and databases to AWS.

The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of technical experience , extensive hands-on AWS migration expertise, strong cloud architecture skills, and advanced proficiency with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), AWS CDK, and cloud automation.

Role Details

• Client: AWS Professional Services (ProServe), supporting large enterprise customers, primarily in financial services
• Employment Type: Full-time, permanent position (not contract; C2C and subcontracting arrangements are not considered)
• Location: 100% Remote – United States
• Work Authorization: U.S. citizens or Green Card holders only; no current or future visa sponsorship
• Engagement: Long-term enterprise initiatives (12+ months)

Key Responsibilities

• Application Assessment & Migration Strategy: Partner directly with application development teams to assess legacy architectures, map application dependencies, and determine appropriate migration approaches, including rehosting, replatforming, and refactoring.
• Hands-on AWS Migrations: Execute complex migrations of enterprise applications, databases, and data flows from on-premises data centers to AWS, minimizing downtime and maintaining data integrity.
• Cloud Architecture: Design secure, scalable, highly available AWS architectures optimized for demanding financial services applications, including high-throughput and latency-sensitive workloads.
• Migration Execution & Cutover: Lead migration planning, technical cutovers, validation, troubleshooting, and post-migration performance optimization.
• Database Migrations: Migrate enterprise databases to AWS-managed services, including Amazon RDS and Aurora, leveraging AWS DMS, AWS SCT, and related migration technologies.
• Infrastructure as Code: Design, develop, and maintain reusable infrastructure using Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, and AWS CDK (Python or TypeScript) , including multi-account and multi-environment deployment patterns.
• Automation & CI/CD: Build and maintain deployment pipelines using GitLab CI, Jenkins, or AWS CodePipeline, developing automation scripts in Python, Bash, or Go.
• Hybrid Cloud & Networking: Design secure connectivity between AWS workloads and existing on-premises environments, including VPC networking, Transit Gateway, DNS, load balancing, and hybrid integration.
• Security & Compliance: Implement AWS security best practices, including IAM, RBAC, encryption, KMS, network security, and audit logging, ensuring alignment with financial services regulatory requirements.
• Disaster Recovery: Implement highly available architectures, backup and recovery solutions, and multi-AZ or multi-region disaster recovery strategies.
• Technical Advisory: Serve as a trusted technical advisor to application engineering teams, providing architectural guidance, hands-on troubleshooting, and migration best practices.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: 10+ years of professional experience in software engineering, infrastructure engineering, systems engineering, or cloud architecture, with extensive hands-on AWS migration experience.
• Financial Services: Minimum 3 years of experience within financial services, including investment banking, retail banking, fintech, or financial market infrastructure.
• AWS Engineering: Deep technical expertise across AWS services, including:
• Compute: EC2, ECS, EKS, Lambda
• Networking: VPC, Transit Gateway, Route 53, ELB/ALB
• Databases & Storage: RDS, Aurora, DynamoDB, S3
• Security & Monitoring: IAM, KMS, CloudWatch, CloudTrail
• Cloud Migrations: Proven experience migrating complex, production enterprise applications and databases from on-premises environments to AWS.
• Infrastructure as Code: Advanced hands-on experience with Terraform and/or AWS CloudFormation , developing scalable, reusable infrastructure components.
• AWS CDK: Strong development experience using AWS CDK with Python or TypeScript , including custom constructs, infrastructure architecture, and multi-account deployment patterns.
• Migration Tooling: Practical experience with AWS Application Migration Service (MGN), AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) , or equivalent enterprise migration tools.
• Automation & Scripting: Strong proficiency with Python, Bash, or Go for infrastructure automation, migration workflows, and operational tooling.
• AWS Certification: Active AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate certification required; Professional certification preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Enterprise Database Migration: Experience migrating Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL databases to Amazon RDS or Aurora PostgreSQL, including schema conversion, stored procedure migration, and change data capture (CDC).
• Application Modernization: Experience modernizing legacy applications using containerization (Docker, ECS Fargate, EKS) or serverless architectures.
• AWS Migration Services: Advanced experience with AWS DMS, AWS SCT, MGN, and large-scale migration automation.
• DevOps & CI/CD: Strong experience implementing automated deployment pipelines, infrastructure validation, and cloud operational tooling.
• Regulated Environments: Experience delivering cloud solutions in highly regulated financial services environments, including PCI-DSS, SOC 2, and enterprise data protection requirements.
• Additional Certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional.
• Consulting Experience: Prior experience supporting AWS Professional Services or delivering large-scale cloud transformation programs for enterprise customers.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a Senior AWS Cloud Engineer, AWS Migration Engineer, or Cloud Solutions Architect with deep hands-on experience migrating mission-critical enterprise applications and databases to AWS.

This individual should be equally comfortable designing cloud architectures and writing the infrastructure code required to implement them , with significant experience in Terraform, AWS CDK, Python automation, and enterprise database migration.

Strong candidates will combine AWS architecture, hands-on cloud engineering, complex on-premises-to-AWS migrations, financial services experience, and the ability to collaborate directly with application development teams on large-scale modernization initiatives.
