Position Summary: -
- The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is seeking a DevOps and Cloud Engineer to support ITD Tolling modernization initiatives.
- The selected consultant will design, implement, and maintain secure and automated deployment processes while ensuring reliable delivery and updates of services.
- The consultant will standardize CI/CD processes, improve application availability and reliability, support Azure cloud infrastructure, and contribute to cost optimization and governance.
- The role will work closely with architects, developers, DBAs, and engineering teams to ensure secure network, identity, deployment, and operational configurations.
Responsibilities: -
- The selected consultant will perform, but not be limited to, the following activities:
- Design, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps YAML and Classic pipelines for microservices and APIs.
- Establish reusable pipeline templates, release standards, and deployment guardrails.
- Implement secure secrets and key management using Azure Key Vault and managed identities.
- Automate database deployment workflows using DACPAC, SQLCMD, and related technologies.
- Integrate database migration steps into CI/CD releases.
- Implement blue/green deployment and automated rollback strategies to minimize downtime and deployment risks.
- Standardize provisioning and configuration across Dev, QA, and Production environments.
- Develop configuration baselines and ensure consistency across environments.
- Build monitoring dashboards and actionable alerts for pipeline and deployment health using Application Insights and pipeline logs.
- Implement and maintain Azure services including App Services, Function Apps, API Gateways/API Management, and AKS.
- Support identity and access management using Microsoft Entra ID, SSO, role assignments, and least-privilege principles.
- Ensure Azure solutions are fault tolerant and highly available.
- Monitor Azure services and application workloads for uptime and performance.
- Perform diagnostic analysis using Azure Monitor and Log Analytics.
- Triage production incidents, drive timely resolution, and document root cause findings.
- Participate in operational cycles, maintenance readiness checks, and production support activities.
- Consider PCI or comparable regulatory requirements when evaluating system behavior, logging, and integrations.
- Understand end-to-end data flows across tolling systems, including roadway data, financial transactions, and reporting.
- Support optimization of integrations and cloud-based data flows.
- Contribute to cloud cost visibility and optimization recommendations.
- Collaborate with architects, developers, DBAs, and engineers to align deployments with secure network and identity configurations.
- Communicate project, deployment, operational, and technical information clearly with stakeholders.
