Clinician Investigator - General Internal Medicine

Position Overview

The Department of Internal Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Utah is seeking candidates for faculty clinician investigators. The position is established at a role determined by qualifications, and start‑up funding is available for salary and program support during the first three years to establish an independent research program or obtain a career‑development award.

The Division of General Internal Medicine has a history of clinical research in thrombosis, hypertension, and women’s health and has been an institutional leader in quality improvement and value‑driven outcomes projects. Candidates should be interested in establishing an independent research program that builds on the strengths of the Division and adds new dimensions to our current portfolio.

Responsibilities

• Establish an independent clinical research program in thrombosis, hypertension, women’s health, or related areas.
• Develop and pursue funding opportunities, including start‑up funding and subsequent career‑development awards.
• Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with divisions in Internal Medicine, Family and Preventive Medicine, Population Health Science, Veterans Affairs Hospital, Colleges of Nursing, Health, and Pharmacy.
• Conduct collaborative research projects that leverage existing community partnerships.
• Participate in faculty mentoring, teaching, and service activities within the department and broader university community.

Minimum Qualifications

• Medical degree (MD or DO) and ABIM certification or eligibility.
• Post‑doctoral research training in a clinical research‑focused fellowship, such as General Medicine.
• Demonstrated research productivity and potential for independent research.
