- Implement pharmaceutical services to patients throughout the Medical Center
- Accurately compound and dispense medications
- Perform clinical functions including therapeutic drug monitoring and patient-appropriate dosing
- Check all medications leaving the department for quality assurance
- Dispense medications from physician orders and accurately enter orders into the computer system
- Verify dosages are appropriate for patients
- Check refills, unit dose medications, and IV preparations for filling and labeling accuracy
- Communicate with healthcare professionals about non-formulary drugs, allergies, drug interactions, drug compatibilities, and dosing questions
- Use pharmacy computer systems and reference materials to support appropriate and cost-effective drug therapy
- Participate in planning new pharmacy functions and updating current services
- Participate in in-service programs regarding procedures, policies, equipment, and treatments
- Participate in departmental and cross-departmental projects
- Enter oral and IV medications into the HBOC System
- Oversee technicians operating the Omnicell System
- Dose drugs through the Pharmacokinetic Dosing Service
- Monitor patients for adverse drug reactions
Requirements
- Licensed Pharmacist certification/license from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
- Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy
- Working knowledge of chemotherapy agents
- Working knowledge of hyperalimentation
- Working knowledge of IV admixture
- Working knowledge of narcotic control
- Working knowledge of investigational drugs
- Working knowledge of therapeutic drug monitoring
- Working knowledge of medication storage and dispensing guidelines
- Competence communicating medication-order issues to healthcare professionals
- Sound judgment related to patient care
- Competence using various computer systems
- Ability to write in patient charts
- Ability to dose medications based on patient-specific parameters
- Ability to use the HBOC System and oversee the Omnicell System
- Ability to dose drugs through the Pharmacokinetic Dosing Service
- Ability to monitor adverse drug reactions
