General Summary/Responsibilities:

Status: Full-time: *40 Hours per week (80 hours per pay period)

Department: Pharmacy

Facility: Miami Valley Hospital

Under the supervision of Pharmacy Leadership and according to standard procedures, the pharmacist compounds and dispenses medications, provides pharmaceutical care upon receiving provider orders, and performs all duties necessary for the effective daily operation of departmental services and programs. Responsibilities include medication dosing and monitoring by provider referral, active participation in codes, supervision of interns and technicians in all assigned work areas, training pharmacy students and technicians, and participation in clinical research protocols and drug therapy research activities.

Education

Minimum Level of Education Required: Bachelor's degree

Additional requirements:

  • Type of degree: B.S. Pharm from an accredited college of pharmacy

  • Area of study or major: Pharmacy

  • Preferred educational qualifications: PharmD from an accredited college of pharmacy

  • Position specific testing requirement: N/A

Licensure/Certification/Registration

  • Ohio pharmacist licensure in good standing or eligibility for licensure with the State of Ohio

  • ACLS certification obtained within 90 days of hire

Experience

Minimum Level of Experience Required: No prior job-related work experience

Preferred experience: Greater than or equal to a six-month hospital pharmacy internship or hospital experience as a pharmacist

Other experience requirements: Exclusive retail experience – greater than 5 years discouraged; greater than 10 years disqualifies candidate

Knowledge/Skills

  • Good interpersonal skills, excellent verbal and written communication, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to read and write printed material in English

  • Effective patient interview and medication counseling skills

  • Ability to work well with other healthcare workers and perform as a team

  • Proficient with aseptic technique when utilizing horizontal and vertical flow hoods

  • Customer-service orientation

  • Proficiency with computer keyboard operations

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications preferred

  • Ability to troubleshoot problems and perform minor maintenance on pharmacy equipment, printers, computers, and telecommunication equipment with adequate training. Familiarity with pharmacy software is required

  • Flexibility in scheduling is essential for mentoring and training new coworkers
