Job Description

The VA Boston Healthcare System (VABHS) is seeking to hire a full-time clinical or counseling psychologist within the Trauma Recovery Section/PTSD clinic, located on the Brockton campus. The primary focus of this position will be working with veterans with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and associated concerns, particularly substance abuse as well as mood, and anxiety, and interpersonal difficulties. The psychologist would be responsible for direct clinical care, including assessment, individual and group psychotherapy. They must have experience with evidence-based approaches to the assessment and treatment of a variety of clinical presentations, especially for PTSD; training and experience in the provision of Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, and/or Written Exposure Therapy is preferred. VABHS is a vibrant academic medical center, known for its behavioral health research portfolio and large training programs.

Clinical Responsibilities

1. Direct Service Provision

• The psychologist provides a full range of psychodiagnostic services for veterans presenting to clinics in the Trauma Recovery Section. S/he conducts initial screening assessments of new referrals and makes appropriate dispositions of all cases.
• The psychologist conducts comprehensive, multimodal evaluations of veterans presenting for assessment of posttraumatic stress, adjustment, substance abuse, personality, and related disorders.
• The psychologist provides a range of therapeutic interventions (including individual and group therapy) with a focus on evidence-based therapies.

2. Consults with mental health staff and other medical center staff on a wide variety of patient care issues. This psychologist consults with inpatient, residential and outpatient mental health programs to ensure the appropriate disposition of Veterans, and conducts trainings with relevant staff and trainees on trauma and related issues.

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm. Compressed may be available.

Pay

Competitive salary and regular salary increases.

Paid Time Off

37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year). Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience.

Parental Leave

After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy

After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.

Retirement

Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA.
