Clinical Pharmacist I – Per Diem

City of Hope Orange County is transforming cancer treatment by bringing world-class expertise and specialized care closer to home. Supported by a regional network of care, our 11-acre academic cancer campus in Irvine is home to City of Hope Orange County Lennar Foundation Cancer Center, our outpatient cancer center, and Orange County's only cancer specialty hospital, opening in late 2025. With the opening of the hospital, the full continuum of advanced cancer care—from prevention through survivorship—will be available in Orange County for the first time, eliminating the need to travel for lifesaving treatment. Seamlessly connected to our outpatient cancer center, the new clinical research hospital will feature 73 inpatient beds, advanced surgical suites, groundbreaking clinical trials, and holistic services such as rehabilitative therapy and spiritual care. This isn't standard cancer care. This is lifesaving cancer care. This is Hope.

The Clinical Pharmacist I is a licensed professional who provides safe and optimal comprehensive patient care. The Clinical Pharmacist I ensures federal, state, and local requirements, including all standards required by regulatory bodies such as The Joint Commission, are met. The Clinical Pharmacist I will perform medication management activities including analyzing, verification, monitoring, compounding, and dispensing. The Clinical Pharmacist I will serve as the medication management expert by providing accurate drug information to providers, nurses, and other clinical staff. The individual will supervise technicians during the shift and assist with training/education for pharmacy staff. It is expected that the Clinical Pharmacist I will collaborate with colleagues and provide excellent customer service to patients and staff. Additional duties may include quality and performance improvement activities or others as determined by Pharmacy Leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with providers, nurses, and other clinical staff to ensure the medication management process is safe, high quality, and cost-effective for all patients.
  • Provides oversight of safe and timely medication use system.
  • Oversees compounding in alignment with USP, Board of Pharmacy, and other regulations.
  • Ensures medications are received, stored, labelled, transported, and wasted appropriately.
  • Ensures controlled substance processes are adhered to.
  • Engages in activities that promotes cost effective high-quality care.
  • Evaluates non-formulary requests and offers alternatives to medical staff as appropriate.
  • Minimizes waste for medications and resources.
  • Ensures optimal inventory management.
  • Demonstrates ability to work as a member of the team by exhibiting good interpersonal skills and remaining flexible and open minded.
  • Mentors new staff and consistently models service excellence.
  • Obtains and maintains licenses and certificates required for job function and completes all assigned trainings in a timely manner.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of ACPE-accredited Pharmacy School or School with ACPE accreditation pending.
  • Current CA Pharmacist License.
  • American Heart Association BLS certification.

Compensation

Hourly Per Diem Rate: $92.03
