Clinical Pathologist

City of Hope Medical Group seeks a full-time academic Clinical Pathologist with subspecialty interest or expertise in Clinical Chemistry to join their growing team in Duarte, CA. The successful candidate will serve as the Medical Director of Clinical Chemistry, leading specialized chemistry laboratories and supporting the care of immunocompromised cancer and cellular therapy patients. This academic-oriented role involves clinical service, translational research, medical education, and collaboration with a diverse team of nationally recognized physicians.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient-centered care in collaboration with a diverse and nationally recognized team of physicians at City of Hope
• Serve as the Medical Director of Clinical Chemistry at the Duarte campus
• Lead a specialized chemistry laboratories which feature several chemistry automation lines
• Lead efforts to further develop endocrine, immunology, tumor marker, and therapeutic drug monitoring assays within both current and future laboratory spaces
• Represent the Clinical Laboratories in test utilization, departmental quality, and laboratory information system committees at the medical center
• Provide coverage and on-call duties for other sections of Clinical Pathology as directed by the Chief of the Division of Clinical Pathology
• Work with CLIA Laboratory Directors across the City of Hope enterprise, the Executive Director of Clinical Laboratories, managers, supervisors, and technical staff on issues affecting clinical laboratory services and operations
• Promote an environment for collaboration, inter-disciplinary teamwork, and staff development through medical education

Compensation

• Base Salary Range: $310,000 to $480,000

Qualifications

• Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) degree
• Board eligibility/certification in Clinical Pathology or Anatomic Pathology/Clinical Pathology from the American Board of Pathology
• Hold or be eligible for a medical license in the State of California
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience working in or directing a clinical pathology laboratory or section are preferred
• Board eligibility/certification in Clinical Chemistry from the American Board of Pathology or American Board of Clinical Chemistry is strongly preferred
• Requires knowledge of a diverse population of patients and interaction with staff from various departments
• Experience in research methodologies and grant funding
• Knowledge regarding all phases of technical leadership, training, quality assurance/quality control, and regulatory compliance associated with both IVD and laboratory-developed testing
• Experience defining organizational goals, critical issues, and strategic plans
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and negotiate with people at all levels
