Job Description

The University of Missouri’s Sinclair School of Nursing invitesapplications for a professional clinical educator and nursingconsultant position. Primary responsibilities include providing education and technicalassistance to long-term care (LTC) facility nursing staff inquality improvement practices, latest clinical evidence-basedpractices in nursing and health care, and evidence-basedorganizational improvement practices via extensive travel, byphone, email, webinars, or virtual meetings. Publicly speaks and/orconducts presentations in large and small group settings. Utilizesand maintains expertise in gerontological nursing, care for theelderly, or other as necessitated for the role. The Clinical Educator and Consultant will serve nursing homes andLTC facilities primarily in the St. Louis/Eastern region ofMissouri; therefore, travel is required throughout St. Louis andthe eastern region of the state with occasional travel to otherlocations. Residing in the service area is preferred.

Key responsibilities

Works directly with MO’s LTC facility management staff in theimplementation of teams for decision-making and quality improvementas well as the ability to work with all levels of MO’s LTC facilitystaff to assist them in developing high-performing work teams.Maintains confidentiality.

Working knowledge in the following areas is necessary to provideeffective consultation

• Required federal nursing home Resident Assessment Instrument(RAI) process which includes the Minimum Data Set (MDS), Care AreaAssessment (CAA,) and Care Planning regarding the required codingand reporting interpretations and regulations
• MDS-derived quality measures (QMs) that have been nationallydeveloped and reported to facilities
• Public and communication skills to communicate effectively withthe nursing home staff to assist them in using the QMs in theirpractices
• 5-STAR reports that are publicly accessible regarding nursinghome care.
• Change management to implement planned change and assist directcare staff to improve systems of care in health careorganizations.

Establishes and maintains collaborative working relationships withinterdisciplinary faculty and research staff at the University ofMissouri to develop needed links with experts in many areas thatmay be essential to assisting facilities with many kinds ofclinical and organizational practice issues.

Establishes and maintains collaborative working relationships withthe staff of the MO Department of Health and Senior Services(MODHSS) and carries out the required work in collaboration withthe MODHSS. In addition, this role may include coordinating andbuilding relationships with LTC facilities in MO who participate inMU research projects.

Effectively collaborates among all members of the MU QIPMOteam.

Completes timely entries into a database of all facility contacts(on-site visits, phone calls, e-mails, virtual visits, etc.).

Shift

8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, with evening andweekend hours as necessary

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education andrelevant experience, and at least 4 years of experience from whichcomparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

• BSN or MSN preferred, from an accredited college oruniversity
• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state ofMissouri
• Expertise in gerontological nursing, with 2-3 years of experiencein LTC or care of the elderly, or from which comparable knowledgeand abilities is acquired
• Proficiency in the use of computer technology for purposes oftimely data entry
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word,PowerPoint, and Excel
• The ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing,and in-person and via zoom or other virtual platforms

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range:$73,000 to $77,000 annually
