Shift Schedule: Rotating shifts including evenings, nights, and weekends. No on-call required.
How Many Shifts Needed Per Month: Coverage across 5 FTE on day, evening, and night shifts. Weekends approximately 1-2 per month per person (may be more based on lab needs).
Credentialing / Onboarding Time: 6 weeks to 8 weeks
License: Any state license works.
Certifications:
Experience Needed: 3 years of recent experience across chemistry, urinalysis, blood bank, hematology, coagulation, and microbiology. (Education path C alternative requires 5 years.)

- Nationally certified MT, MLS, or CLS (required)
- BLS/ACLS
Experience Needed: 3 years of recent experience across chemistry, urinalysis, blood bank, hematology, coagulation, and microbiology. (Education path C alternative requires 5 years.)
Special Skills Needed:
- Routine chemistry on automated instrumentation (Abbott Architect ci8200, Abbott Alinity, Advanced Instruments Osmos, Polymedco OC80)
- Urinalysis (Beckman Coulter, manual methods)
- Blood bank: cross matching, antibody screening/identification, cell panels, tube and gel technology
- Hematology/coagulation (Sysmex, ACL Top, Alcor iSed)
- Microbiology: plating, gram staining, reading/subbing plates, Microscan setup, PCR testing
- CAP Proficiency Testing participation
- Fluent English (speak, understand, read, write)
- VA electronic health record documentation
- Perform patient and QC testing per established protocols across all lab sections.
- Independently test, evaluate, document, and report patient testing and QC.
- Identify, document, and resolve collection, processing, testing, or reporting issues.
- Run routine daily and weekly QC and instrument maintenance.
- Positively identify patients before collection and samples before testing.
- Safeguard electronic and paper patient information.
- Participate in monthly QI meetings and staff meetings (12 hours each annually).
- Report patient safety events to the COR within 24 hours.
