Experience and Education

Required Education High School Diploma or equivalent Experience 2 years of related laboratory experience Related college laboratory classes may be accepted in lieu of experience. Preferred Education Some College

Job Duties

Handle and process specimens according to departmental protocols. Peform the following duties: specimen management (receive specimens from phlebotomists and nursing floors); specimen accession into LIS; prepare specimens for testing; basic technical tasks (placing samples in automated analyzer, streak culture plates, etc.); submit specimens to testing department; store and manage specimens according to retention protocols. Maintain accurate and easy-to-use specimen storage systems. Monitor and maintain accurate patient identification and confidentiality for all samples in accordance with departmental protocol. Ensure specimens sent to reference laboratories are submitted to referral department in a timely manner. Answer telephone inquiries and provide verified test result information per the LIS system. Establish priorities and organize activities to achieve optimum and efficient results. Complete assigned functions in appropriate time intervals. Perform other duties as assigned.
