Overview
Smith Medical Clinic is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Clinical Director to oversee the clinical operations of our free medical clinic, which serves low-income, uninsured residents of Georgetown County. The ideal candidate will be a Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) with strong leadership abilities, flexibility, and the ability to communicate effectively with patients, staff, and volunteers. This role requires a balance of clinical expertise and administrative skills, providing support in both direct patient care and clinical management.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership
- Provide direct patient care, including diagnosing and treating patients within scope of practice.
- Review lab and test results and communicate with patients and/or providers to ensure appropriate follow up.
- Coordinate a collaborative team effort to provide a seamless system of care for patients.
- Oversee clinical operations, ensuring high standards of care and patient safety.
- Collaborate with volunteer medical staff and ensure that clinical services are delivered efficiently and effectively.
- Implement and monitor clinical protocols and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate preceptorships for nurse practitioner and physician assistant students.
- Orient new healthcare providers to ensure they are fully acquainted with clinic procedures, including treatment protocols, formulary, referral processes, and overall operational workflow.
Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and support a team of healthcare providers and clinical staff.
- Participate in regular team meetings to review patient care, clinic operations, and areas for improvement.
- Promote a collaborative and supportive environment for all team members, including staff and volunteers.
Patient Care & Communication
- Provide clinical care when scheduled healthcare providers are unexpectedly absent.
- Serve as a point of contact for patients and ensure that they receive respectful, compassionate, and culturally appropriate care.
- Communicate clearly and tactfully with patients regarding their care plans and any necessary follow-up.
- Address any patient concerns or complaints in a professional manner.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Work closely with the Executive Director to plan and implement clinical programs and initiatives.
- Collaborate on strategic planning efforts to ensure the clinic meets the growing needs of the community.
- Assist in quality improvement efforts by analyzing clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction.
Qualifications
- Licensed Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the state of South Carolina.
- Minimum 5 years of clinical experience, preferably in primary care, urgent care, or community health.
- Prior experience in leadership or management roles is strongly preferred.
- Excellent communication skills with a proven ability to work tactfully with patients, staff, and volunteers.
- Ability to work independently while also fostering a collaborative team environment.
- Commitment to serving the underserved and understanding the unique challenges faced by low‑income, uninsured patients.
- Strong problem‑solving and organizational skills.
Working Conditions
- Part‑time role, with flexible hours (4–5 days per week, minimum of 20 hours and maximum of 25 hours per week).
