Overview

The Hudson River Foundation (HRF) seeks a colleague motivated to utilize their scientific expertise and communication skills to advance understanding of climate change, support climate resilience initiatives, and enhance educational outreach for the Hudson River Estuary in New York and New Jersey.

The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team-based environment and a staff that is dedicated to achieving impacts in their individual work and through a variety of collaborative estuary research and management programs. Over our 40-year history, HRF has actively engaged with the research and management communities to provide research‑based insights that have informed important policy and management decisions, and advanced significant research and restoration initiatives. HRF is the host of the NY‑NJ Harbor & Estuary Program (HEP), and we work in collaboration with partners throughout the Hudson River Estuary in New York and New Jersey to achieve our shared missions.

Responsibilities

The Climate Outreach Associate will work closely with the Foundation’s Water Quality Manager, other Foundation staff, and partners including the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, Rutgers University, and the New York State Hudson River Estuary Program to organize technical and policy focused meetings, workshops, trainings, conferences, and workgroups. Key initial assignments include development of an estuary‑wide needs assessment of available climate ժողովրդ and decision‑making tools for communities and environmental educators; outreach and engagement of local government and community partners in New York and New Jersey including producing and/or summarizing informational materials as neededWord 〓; helping advance and administer adaptation planning and resilience projects lẹ︎ currently underway under the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Building a Climate Ready New Jersey, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation’s Climate Smart Communities and Hudson Valley Flood Resilience Network; and helping support the Hudson-Harbor Educators’ Work Group.

Skills and Qualifications

Required

  • Undergraduate degree in natural resources, environmental science, environmental education, urban planning, or a related field and at least five years of relevant work experience, or a Masters Degree in a relevant field and at least three years of experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication as well as organizational skills
  • Experience with community engagement, environmental education, environmental science/management, and/or municipal planning
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in advancing multiple overlapping projects simultaneously in a team‑based setting
  • Interest in supporting collaborations between community organizations, local government, resource managers, and technical and policy experts.

Desired

  • Familiarity with climate change impacts, adaptation, resilience strategies tactics, and education curricula
  • Experience with outreach and capacity building, especially with local governments and/or community‑based organizations
  • Proficiency in decision‑making tools for environmental management, community planning, and/or presentation software
  • Proficiency in analyzing and communicating climate and other data, including using GIS or other tools for interpreting and visualizing climate data
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice
  • Knowledge of the current and emerging issues relevant to the Hudson River Estuary in New York and/or New Jersey.

Salary, Benefits, and Office Expectations

This is a full‑time position with a competitive salary and benefits that include health, dental, and life insurance; paid vacation and a 403(b)-pension plan. The Associate is expected to be physically present in the Hudson River Foundation office in Lower Manhattan a minimum of two days autent review a week with anticipated regular travel throughout the region for meetings with community members and平码 municipalities, including evening and weekends. Salary: $65,000 to $75,000 depending on experience.
