Classroom Support Instructional Assistant

Under general supervision, to assist teachers with instructional duties, and related work as required.

Qualifications:

• High school graduation or its equivalent.
• Must pass basic high school competency test.
• Ability to speak and write effectively; understand and follow oral and written instructions; work effectively with young people; work independently on own initiative; establish and maintain cooperative relationships; ability to work calmly and accurately under pressure and with frequent interruptions.

Essential Functions:

• Tutor students, individually or in groups, in prescribed subject matter under direction of certificated staff.
• Administer and correct teacher-prepared tests.
• Monitor on-campus student activities as assigned under the guidance and direction of an administrative staff member.
• Support teacher(s) in clerical duties, such as photocopying and recordkeeping as assigned.
• May set up and use audiovisual equipment and computers to assist students.
• Perform other duties as required.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
• Ability to stand and circulate for extended periods of time.
• May require the ability to ascend or descend steps.
• Ability to see and read, with or without vision aids.
• Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
• Ability to communicate so others will clearly understand normal conversation.
• Ability to bend and twist, kneel and stoop.
• Ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 20 pounds on a regular basis and push/pull up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to reach in all directions.
• Physical dexterity in limbs and digits to operate audiovisual equipment and computers.
