Job Title: Class A CDL Driver

Job Description

The Class A CDL Driver safely operates tanker trucks, vacuum trucks, roll-off trucks, and other specialized commercial vehicles to support environmental remediation, hazardous waste transportation, industrial cleaning, and emergency spill response projects. This role works closely with field crews to transport liquids, hazardous and non-hazardous waste, contaminated materials, and remediation equipment while consistently meeting DOT, EPA, OSHA, and internal safety requirements. The driver maintains high standards of safety, environmental compliance, and customer service in industrial and field environments.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate CDL Class A vehicles, including tanker trucks, vacuum trucks, roll-off trucks, and trailers in industrial and field environments.

  • Transport hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials to approved treatment, storage, and disposal facilities in full compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Load, secure, transport, and unload liquid waste, sludge, contaminated water, chemicals, and industrial byproducts using appropriate equipment and procedures.

  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment in accordance with DOT regulations and company policies.

  • Operate pumps, hoses, valves, and vacuum systems during loading and unloading activities to ensure safe and efficient material handling.

  • Assist with equipment setup, mobilization, and demobilization for environmental remediation projects at various job sites.

  • Support hazardous material spill response and cleanup activities as part of an emergency response team.

  • Assist environmental field technicians with decontamination, waste collection, and site cleanup operations to ensure proper handling of materials.

  • Perform industrial cleaning tasks, including tank cleaning, pit cleaning, and wastewater removal, using appropriate tools and methods.

  • Transport remediation equipment, supplies, and materials to and from project sites in a safe and timely manner.

  • Participate in emergency response activities that may require rapid deployment, extended hours, and work on weekends or holidays.

  • Comply with all DOT, EPA, OSHA, and company safety policies, procedures, and best practices at all times.

  • Maintain accurate driver logs, inspection reports, manifests, and transportation documentation in accordance with regulatory and company standards.

  • Ensure proper labeling, packaging, and transportation of hazardous materials to meet all applicable regulations and safety requirements.

  • Follow all site-specific safety requirements and consistently wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Immediately report incidents, spills, vehicle issues, and safety concerns to the appropriate personnel to support prompt resolution.

Essential Skills

  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

  • Tanker endorsement required for operating vehicles designed to haul bulk liquids or gases in tanks with an individual or aggregate capacity of 119 gallons or more.

  • Minimum 3+ years of commercial driving experience operating heavy combination vehicles (26,001 lbs or more with a towed unit over 10,000 lbs).

  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate tanker trucks, vacuum trucks, roll-off trucks, and trailers in industrial and environmental settings.

  • Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and requirements, including pre-trip and post-trip inspections and driver log documentation.

  • Understanding of EPA and OSHA safety standards related to hazardous materials handling, environmental remediation, and industrial cleaning.

  • Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) that meets company and insurance requirements.

  • Ability to operate pumps, hoses, valves, and vacuum systems for loading and unloading liquids and sludge.

  • Capability to travel and work overtime, weekends, and participate in emergency response assignments as required.

  • Commitment to safety, environmental compliance, and high-quality customer service.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • HAZWOPER 40-hour certification preferred, demonstrating training in hazardous waste operations and emergency response.

  • HazMat endorsement preferred for transporting regulated hazardous materials.

  • Previous vacuum truck operating experience in industrial or environmental applications.

  • Experience in industrial cleaning activities such as tank cleaning, pit cleaning, and wastewater removal.

  • History in environmental remediation projects, including handling contaminated materials and supporting cleanup operations.

  • Confined Space Entry certification preferred for work in restricted or enclosed areas during cleaning and remediation tasks.

  • Experience supporting spill response operations and over-the-road transportation of waste and environmental materials.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a field crew, following instructions and collaborating with environmental technicians.

  • Strong attention to detail in documentation, labeling, and manifest completion for hazardous and non-hazardous materials.

  • Reliable work ethic with flexibility to respond to emergency situations and changing project needs.

Work Environment

This position is field-based and operates primarily in industrial, environmental, and remediation project settings. The driver regularly uses tanker trucks, vacuum trucks, roll-off trucks, pumps, hoses, valves, and vacuum systems, and must adhere to DOT, EPA, OSHA, and site-specific safety requirements. The environment may include exposure to outdoor weather conditions, industrial noise, and hazardous and non-hazardous materials. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required and may include items such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, protective suits, and respiratory protection depending on the task. Work hours can vary based on project needs and emergency response activities, and may include overtime, weekends, and rapid deployment to spill response or cleanup sites.
