Claims Technical Director - Excess Claims

Los Angeles, CA – Join our team as a Claims Technical Director overseeing a book of excess claims.

Responsibilities

  • Manager of a book of excess claims for a significant size, complex product(s) or line of business, including complex coverage and mass tort matters.
  • Conduct thorough investigations, critically assess coverage and liability, and formulate strategic approaches to claim resolution.
  • Analyze and negotiate settlements within prescribed authority, and participate in arbitrations, mediations, depositions, or trials.
  • Develop and implement strategic coverage decisions, determining outcomes, and formulating negotiation strategies for stakeholders.
  • Oversee the issuance of payments within assigned authority limits, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Ensure all correspondence, reports, and settlement agreements are accurately documented and strategically managed.
  • Serve as the technical expert on product(s).
  • Evaluate and make recommendations to executive management on internal and external issues of strategic importance.
  • Accountable for achieving performance targets and business results.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Risk Management and Insurance, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in property and casualty claims handling; completion of a professional designation preferred, such as Associate in Claims (AIC).
  • Operate at the highest authority level on complex, high-impact assignments, possessing extensive technical knowledge and skills in both product and industry.
  • Ensure all correspondence, reports, and settlement agreements are accurately documented and strategically managed.
  • Serve as the technical expert on product(s).
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal, statutory, and regulatory requirements.
  • Accountable for achieving performance targets and business results; provide technical advice and support to lower‑level positions, management, and other departments.
  • Requires prolonged sitting.
  • Requires continuous use of computer.
  • May lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to 10 lbs.
  • Employees expected to be on‑site at the Downtown Los Angeles office four days a week, with the flexibility to work one day remotely. Core in‑office days are Tuesday–Thursday, with the fourth day determined by business needs.

Salary Range

$123,280.00 – $168,820.00
