Civil Engineering Manager
We're seeking a licensed Civil Engineering Manager to lead our Civil Design team. This is a leadership role responsible for the technical direction, quality, and delivery of a team of 10–12 engineers and designers across our commercial and private development portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and manage a civil design team of 10–12 engineers and technical staff.
- Serve as engineer-of-record and senior technical resource on commercial and private development projects — retail, office, industrial, mixed-use, and institutional.
- Direct commercial site development work: site layout, grading, drainage, stormwater management, detention/retention, sanitary and storm sewer, utility coordination, and pavement design.
- Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and quality from proposal through construction support, keeping developer timelines and pro forma expectations front of mind.
- Review and stamp drawings, calculations, and reports for code compliance.
- Oversee entitlement, permitting, and coordination with municipalities, utilities, and review authorities.
- Build client relationships with developers, architects, and property owners; support proposals and new pursuits.
Required Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license (Illinois, or ability to obtain via reciprocity).
- Bachelor's in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- Demonstrated commercial and land development experience in civil site design.
- Prior experience managing and mentoring a team of engineers and designers.
- Strong knowledge of site layout, grading, stormwater, sewer/utility, and pavement design.
- Familiarity with municipal entitlement and permitting for private development.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive civil engineering experience, several in a lead/management role.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Knowledge of NPDES/SWPPP, floodplain/wetlands regulations, and CCDD certification.
- Established relationships with Chicago-area developers and municipalities.
