Role Overview

• We are seeking an experienced Civil Engineer and leader to manage its Harrisonburg office, which currently has approximately 12 employees across engineering, surveying, and administration.
• This senior-level position combines civil engineering oversight, team leadership, office management, financial performance, and business development. After becoming familiar with the local market and team, the successful candidate will also have the opportunity to join the company's senior management team and contribute to its growth across Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic region.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of approximately 12 engineers, surveyors, and administrative staff.
• Oversee civil site engineering operations, ensuring quality, efficiency, and adherence to project schedules and budgets.
• Provide technical guidance on land development projects, including rezonings, conceptual planning, site layout, grading, utilities, and stormwater management.
• Oversee the Survey Manager and in-house land surveying activities.
• Manage office financials, including proposals, budgeting, forecasting, invoicing, resource planning, and performance tracking.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships and lead office business development initiatives.
• Prepare and review proposals, scopes of work, and fee estimates.
• Oversee contract administration and coordinate subconsultants as needed.
• Review and approve engineering plans, reports, calculations, and specifications.
• Participate in company-wide operational planning, process improvements, and strategic initiatives.
• Promote a positive, collaborative, and productive office culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
• Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license, preferably in Virginia, or the ability to obtain Virginia P.E. reciprocity within a reasonable timeframe.
• Typically 8+ years of civil/site land development design and project management experience.
• Previous experience managing engineering teams, an office, or a practice area.
• Strong background in client development, proposal preparation, and project delivery.
• Understanding of project financials, budgeting, and resource management.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to balance technical engineering responsibilities with strategic and operational leadership.
