Citrix Infrastructure EngineerThe Citrix Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for the technical ownership of key components of the organisation's global end-user computing and application delivery platforms.
The role provides deep subject-matter expertise and acts as a senior escalation point for complex or business-critical issues. The engineer leads and actively contributes to the delivery of global IT initiatives, including platform modernisation, cloud adoption, and automation. This includes defining technical standards, architecture patterns, operational processes, and documentation to ensure secure, stable, and scalable services.
The role requires strong cross-team and cross-region collaboration, close engagement with Architecture and Security teams, and effective management of strategic vendor relationships. The Citrix Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for the implementation and lifecycle management of a large-scale Citrix estate, including Citrix Cloud–managed services, hybrid cloud integrations, and associated application delivery technologies.ResponsibilitiesTechnical ownership and operational support of the organisation's Citrix infrastructure across multiple global data center and cloud environmentsDesign, deployment, and lifecycle management of Citrix Cloud services, including control plane operations and on-premises / cloud resource locationsEngineering and operational support of Citrix workloads hosted on-premises and in public cloud platforms (e.g. Azure)Proactively monitor, maintain, and enhance the Citrix environment, ensuring alerts and events are triaged, investigated, and resolved effectivelyEvaluate emerging security threats and implement remediation strategies, including patching, configuration hardening, and architectural improvementsDefine and maintain global standards, build patterns, and operational runbooks for Citrix platformsDevelop and maintain high-quality technical documentation that accurately reflects the as-built and as-operated environmentsIntegrate automation and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) practices into platform provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle managementDesign and maintain Terraform modules for repeatable, version-controlled deployment of Citrix-related infrastructure and supporting componentsCollaborate closely with Architecture, Cloud, Network, Security, and Endpoint teams to deliver cohesive end-user platformsAct as a senior escalation point for complex incidents, including participation in out-of-hours support and major incident response when requiredMentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, promoting engineering best practices and continuous improvementEngage with third-party vendors and partners to evaluate, design, and deliver tactical and strategic platform enhancementsManage platform hardware, software, and cloud service lifecycles, ensuring compliance with end-of-life and end-of-support timelinesMaintain and continuously develop technical expertise relevant to the roleQualifications & ExperienceStrong, demonstrable experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise-scale Citrix environments, including:Citrix CloudDelivery ControllersVirtual Delivery Agents (VDA / CVAD)Provisioning Services (PVS)Citrix DirectorCitrix ADC (NetScaler)Hands-on experience operating Citrix Cloud control plane with on-premises and/or public cloud resource locationsAdvanced troubleshooting and performance optimisation skills across Citrix and Microsoft Windows Server platformsProven experience using Terraform to provision and manage infrastructure in a controlled, repeatable mannerPractical knowledge of Infrastructure-as-Code concepts including version control, modular design, state management, and CI/CD integrationStrong PowerShell scripting and automation experience; exposure to orchestration frameworks is advantageousGood working knowledge of networking concepts and protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP), load balancing, firewalls, and secure network designExperience integrating Citrix platforms with enterprise identity and security services (e.g. Active Directory, Entra ID, MFA)Working knowledge of application packaging and application delivery technologies (MSI, App-V, etc.)Experience delivering projects within financial services or other highly regulated environmentsComfortable operating within mature change control, audit, and risk management frameworksKnowledgeDeep understanding of distributed, highly available, and virtualised end-user computing platformsStrong knowledge of modern Citrix architecture, including cloud-managed and hybrid deploymentsSolid understanding of cloud infrastructure concepts and shared-responsibility modelsBroad infrastructure knowledge spanning compute, storage, networking, identity, and security
