Department Summary

The Department of Anesthesiology is seeking a Chronic PainPhysician to join our growing pain management team. This roleprovides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of patients withchronic pain conditions through collaborative, patient-centeredcare. The physician will work alongside a multidisciplinary team todeliver evidence-based medical and interventional pain managementservices, improve patient outcomes, and support the education oftrainees while maintaining the highest standards of quality,safety, and care.

Duties & Responsibilities

To provide medical and/or surgical care and treatment to patientswith chronic pain(s) as designated by the Anesthesiology DepartmentChairman and Medical Director/Program director for Chronic Pain.Provides diagnostic, therapeutic and/or preventive healthcareservice including any or all of the following: histories andphysicals; order and interpret tests; make preliminary diagnosis;treat injuries/illness; assist surgical procedures; counsellingpatients and/or prescribe medication as well as those invasiveprocedures defined by the Virginia Board of Medicine and designatedby Medical Director/Program Director for Chronic Pain. Workscollaboratively with the medical team to deliver organized, timely,cost effective and quality patient care. May supervise supportstaff and trainees including medical students, residents, and painfellows.

The Chronic Pain Physician will provide patient care under defineddepartmental and state approved scope of practice.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD degree
  • Current VA license as a Physician by the Virginia Board ofMedicine
  • Current/Active DEA license
  • Current CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications whereneeded
  • Credentialing in accordance with medical staff by-laws forspecific job title
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty,staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or acommitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU

Preferred Qualifications

  • Board Certification in Pain Management
  • Three (3) years of previous clinical pain managementexperience
  • Addiction/Substance Abuse clinical experience

Salary Range : Commensurate with experience
