Child Watch
This position supports the work of the Armed Services YMCA, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening the military community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Child Watch position ensures the safety of children who are checked into the Children's Waiting Room program while their parents/legal guardian are being seen in an approved, on site clinic for themselves or other immediate household family member. This program aids in fulfilling our mission of enhancing the lives of military members and their families in spirit, mind and body through programs relevant to the unique challenges of military life.
Essential functions include ensuring a safe and clean environment and providing activities for participants, opening and closing the Children's Waiting Room and/or Childwatch room as needed, maintaining appointments and reservations, reviewing and maintaining proper registration forms, vaccination records and intake forms for each child, checking participants in and out of the program, providing customer service, interacting and playing with children, modeling appropriate behavior, providing a kind, nurturing environment, assisting in restroom/diapering and changing clothes, informing parents of any behavioral issues, addressing parent concerns, reporting unsafe conditions, coordinating repair and maintenance needs, tracking program usage and statistics, encouraging donations, assisting in other program areas or special events as needed, and being familiar with and able to refer program participants to other existing ASYMCA programs and services.
Ymca competencies include communication and influence, functional expertise, emotional maturity, and developing self and others.
Qualifications include being customer service oriented with good phone and interpersonal skills, typing proficiently and having a basic knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Outlook, possessing multi-tasking abilities with attention to detail, functioning in various work environments, working with minimal supervision, working individually and as part of a team, operating standard office equipment, experience working with military families preferred, having a valid driver's license and clean driving abstract, and work experience with a non-profit organization is a plus.
Work environment and physical demands include interacting with the general public, ASYMCA leadership team and co-workers, sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions, active play area with child and adult-sized seating, toys for various age groups and small staff office area with a phone, laptop, printer/copier and sink, active movements required to play and interact with program participants, standing for extended periods of time during programs and special events, sitting, kneeling and stooping for short periods of time, up/down movement from floor level is required, ability to lift 30 pounds, and may occasionally be expected to work at special events outside normal working hours, including some weekends.
