Child Support Agent II Opportunity

Brunswick County Department of Social Services is accepting applications for a Child Support Agent II to work with our Child Support Team. We are a forward thinking, creative organization that truly believes in treating others as we want to be treated. We are looking for the right people to join our Team. A Child Support Agent II maintains a large caseload requiring the establishment of paternity, support and enforcement of support obligations in local child support cases. Job responsibilities include:

  • Interviewing and explaining the program to clients and absent parents.
  • Locating absent parents, establishing paternity and support obligations voluntarily and through court procedures.
  • Enforcing court orders using wage withholdings, orders to show cause, registrations, URESA/UIFSA procedure, and other legal methods available.
  • Preparing complaints, motions, notices, petitions, civil summons, and court orders under the general direction of the IV-D attorney.
  • Preparing cases and clients for court, accompanying attorney to court and testifying as required.
  • Monitoring support payments received and the distribution of same.

The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Knowledge of child support policies and legal mandates
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • General computer knowledge and ability to learn and navigate various programs and databases
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and reassess as priorities change in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to de-escalate upset customers / remain calm in stressful situations
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Must be available to work during emergency situations.
