Child Support Investigator

Employee in this position will interview custodial and non-custodial parents to assist in the establishment and/or enforcement of child support orders through the use of administrative/legal actions and investigative techniques; negotiate payments; review cases; prepare clients for court if necessary. Must be able to work effectively in a team setting and maintain a working relationship with community professionals, and agency leaders.

Considerable knowledge of the program/areas of assignment. General knowledge of all agency and community programs and services which could affect the client/applicant. This position requires attention to detail and accuracy in addition to excellent interviewing, communication, mathematical, computer, organizational, and investigative skills while adhering to all federal, state, and local policies and procedures. Ability to work effectively in a team setting and communicate with clients/applicants, the public at large, community professionals and agency leaders to obtain data, and to explain and interpret rules, regulations and procedures. Excellent computer skills required for Child Support system. Ability to perform agent functions within structured time frames.

A four year degree and six months experience in eligibility, investigative, judiciary, or legal work that provides knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the work; or an associate's degree in business administration, human resources, law enforcement or closely related degree and two years of experience in eligibility, investigative, judiciary, or legal work that provides knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the work; or graduation from high school and three years of experience in eligibility, investigative, judiciary, or legal work that provides knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license.
