Full‑time Children’s Advocacy Center Pediatrician – Santa Clara County

County of Santa Clara Valley Healthcare (SCVH) is seeking a full‑time BE/BC pediatrician with fellowship training in child abuse pediatrics who is interested in advocacy for vulnerable children and youth. The position is part of the new Medical Clinic at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Santa Clara County.

About the Children’s Advocacy Center

The Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) of Santa Clara County provides medical evaluations, forensic interviews, and advocacy services to children and youth who may have experienced sexual abuse, physical abuse, and neglect. CAC physicians and advanced practice providers are members of the SCMVC Department of Pediatrics.

About the Position

Clinical and administrative responsibilities include the following:

  • Clinical Responsibilities:
    • Conduct forensic evaluations for child sexual abuse, physical abuse, and neglect at the Medical Clinic and SCVMC.
    • Provide consultation for child physical abuse and neglect as requested by DFCS/CPS, law enforcement, the District Attorney’s Office, and clinical providers within SCVHHS, inpatient, outpatient, and affiliated external clinics.
    • Collaborate with the Pediatric Diagnostic Center and multidisciplinary teams for developmental assessments.
    • Supervise CAC advanced practice providers (physician’s assistants and nurse practitioners).
  • Administrative Responsibilities:
    • Develop and deliver education and training for staff pediatricians, residents, and physicians on signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect.
    • Conduct annual mandatory reporting training for pediatric and emergency departments.
    • Support the Child Abuse Prevention Committee in quality evaluation of abuse assessments.
    • Collaborate with county and community partners to create a centralized trauma‑informed resource for survivors of abuse and neglect.
    • Represent SCVMC on county‑wide organizations advocating for children’s health and safety.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a general pediatrician with significant post‑residency exposure to child abuse pediatrics.
  • Clinical expertise in forensic evaluations of suspected sexual abuse, physical abuse, and neglect.
  • Awareness of trauma impact on children’s emotional and psychological well‑being.
  • Ability to collaborate with other leaders and organizations to improve integration of services for vulnerable children and youth.

Compensation and Benefits
