Chief Veterinarian

Onsite Part Time Bio & Pharmacology & Health

A well established nonprofit animal shelter in Hartsville, SC is hiring a Managing Veterinarian to lead its brand new, purpose built medical wing, which opened in January 2025. This is a rare opportunity to build a shelter medicine program from the ground up rather than step into an existing one. The organization has served county pets for almost 30 years and is now transitioning from a volunteer run model to a fully staffed medical team, with a longer term goal of supporting two full time veterinarians. Day to day work centers on intake exams, high volume spay and neuter, and general medical and wellness care for shelter animals, with two surgery suites allowing simultaneous procedures and in house lab analyzers supporting same day diagnostics. The role also carries responsibility as vet of record, with real influence over protocols, training, and workflow alongside a collaborative, hands on team of cross trained technicians and a dedicated volunteer base. Full time and part time arrangements will both be considered, with a typical weekday schedule and no overnight or emergency on call requirements. This is an ideal fit for a veterinarian who wants meaningful leadership impact, enjoys creative problem solving in a resource conscious setting, and is comfortable with the realities of shelter medicine, including humane decision making when needed.
