Chief Operating Officer (COO) – Security-Based Swap Dealer

Location: New York, NY ( 4 days in the office - Fridays from home)

A leading technology-driven proprietary trading firm is looking for a COO – Security-Based Swap Dealer (SBSD) to build and own its SBSD operational and regulatory framework.

This is a hands-on, builder role , working closely with Trading, Legal, Compliance, Risk, Operations and Technology to establish a scalable, technology-enabled platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead SBSD registration and regulatory engagement with relevant US regulators.
• Build and own the SBSD compliance, governance and operational framework.
• Oversee regulatory reporting, margin, segregation, capital and recordkeeping requirements.
• Establish counterparty onboarding, ISDA, KYC and trade lifecycle processes.
• Build controls around trade surveillance, reconciliations, collateral and regulatory reporting.
• Drive automation and technology solutions across the platform.
• Act as a senior point of contact for regulatory examinations and inquiries.
• Advise senior leadership and Trading on regulatory requirements and emerging risks.

Experience Required

• 8–12+ years' experience in derivatives compliance, operations, regulatory affairs or a related area.
• Experience within a swap dealer, SBSD, proprietary trading firm, bank or regulated financial institution .
• Proven experience building regulatory/operational programmes from the ground up .
• Strong understanding of derivatives, equity swaps/SBS, margin, reporting and trade lifecycle requirements.
• Strong stakeholder management skills across Trading, Risk, Legal, Compliance and Technology.
• Hands-on, commercially minded approach with the ability to translate regulation into practical processes and controls.

Desirable:

Principal trading/non-bank dealer experience, CCO/Deputy CCO experience, SEC/CFTC/FINRA/NFA exposure and experience building technology-led infrastructure.
